Why is this a picture of a green smoothie if it is almond and banana? Well, because I add spirulina and that would make it green. |
Sometimes I may have a sweet tooth or my stomach starts acting funny-trying to get me eat when I know I should not. Yes, I am going to blame it on my stomach........Okay, it is not my stomach that wants the food, but that information would be a very long post. As I was saying, when I have a sweet tooth or something I result to a quick and easy delicious tasting smoothie. One of my favorite quick smoothies to make is a banana smoothie with homemade almond milk and
a little spirulina, and wheat germ. I put all of my ingredients in a blender and blend it up. I use almonds, because I love the taste of almond milk. The almond is one of the most alkaline nuts and helps improve complexion, digestion and promotes healthy hair. Spirulina, is a blue-green algae high in protein, containing 18 of 22 amino acids our body needs. This blue-green algae has essential fatty acids, vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, vitamin C, D, A, E and minerals. Wheat germs adds extra flavor to me and is high in antioxidants. Antioxidants can help protect our body from damage of free radicals; free radicals can cause premature aging amoung other things.
You can make you own almond milk......yummy or you can buy almond milk from the store. If you are allergic to almonds, substitute with cashews (you do not have to soak the cashews). NOTE: if you want to make your own almond milk for smoothies you will need to soak you almonds over night. Check this you tube video below on how to make your own milk if you want to give it a try. She makes it quite similar to how I make mine. Here is what you will need:
- ALMOND MILK- if making your own make, you can use agave or dates for sweetner and fresh vanilla bean instead of vanilla extract. You can also add a pinch of sea salt. BE CREATIVE.
- ONE BANANA
- SPIRULINA (OPTIONAL) I use Pure Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica
- ORGANIC WHEAT GERM (OPTIONAL)
There you go a quick and easy delicious tasting smoothie!!
